Peter Besen
CEO and Co-Founder
Peter has over 25 years experience in successfully starting and managing high technology companies. Prior to the founding of Immedia Semiconductor Peter was Vice President of the Consumer Electronics group at Broadcom and was responsible for Broadcom’s Blu-ray SOC business and H.264 and VC-1 codec technology. The consumer electronics group was formed through the acquisition of Sand Video in 2004 where Peter was CEO and co-founder. Sand Video was a developer of next generation video compression solutions and was the first company to implement the H.264 compression standard in silicon.
Prior to Sand Video, Peter was President and CEO of Pixel Magic, which he co-founded in 1991. In 1995, Pixel Magic was sold to Oak Technology of Sunnyvale, CA. Previously, Peter was a co-founder of LaserData Inc. (1982-1991). He initially held the position of Vice President of Engineering and then became Vice President of OEM Business Development. At LaserData, Peter was responsible for the development of the world’s first PC based document image processing system. Peter was also a founder of Terrapin Consulting and was Data Processing Systems Manager at the MIT Plasma Fusion Center. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT (1978
Don Shulsinger
Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Co-Founder
Don has been a serial entrepreneur in the Boston area for the past 25 years. Prior to the founding of Immedia Semiconductor Don was Vice President of Business Development in the Consumer Electronics group at Broadcom where he was responsible for business and product strategy and OEM sales/marketing and customer operations. The consumer electronics group was formed through the acquisition of Sand Video in 2004 where Don was Vice President of Sales and Marketing and co-founder. Sand Video was a developer of next generation video compression solutions and was the first company to implement the H.264 compression standard in silicon.
Prior to Sand Video, Don was Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Pixel Magic, which he co-founded in 1991. In 1995, Pixel Magic was sold to Oak Technology of Sunnyvale, CA. Previously, Don was a co-founder of LaserData Inc. (1982-1991) where he held the position of Vice President of Marketing. Don was also a founder of Terrapin Consulting. He holds a BS (1978) and MS (1982) in Electrical Engineering from MIT.
Stephen Gordon
CTO and Co-Founder
Steve has over 20 years experience developing technology and engineering teams in video processing, imaging, and embedded real-time systems for consumer and medical electronics. Prior to the founding of Immedia Semiconductor, Steve was the Director of Advanced Video Technology at Broadcom, and a founder and Chief Scientist at Sand Video. During this time, he led the deployment of the first high definition decoders for the H.264/AVC, VC-1, and AVS compression standards. Steve has 20+ issued and pending patents in video algorithms and architectures, and was the lead contributor to the H.264 / AVC High Profile. High Profile won an Emmy Award in 2008.
Prior to Sand Video, Steve was Director of Image Processing at Pixel Magic and Oak Technology, held senior engineering positions at Siemens Medical Electronics and Telebit Corporation, and was an economic researcher at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington DC. He holds a MSEE from UMASS, Amherst, and a BA in mathematics and economics from Amherst College.
Daniel Grunberg
Vice President of Product Development and Co-Founder
Dan was previously President of Chainwave Systems, Inc. a technology development consulting firm. He has been a member of CommonAngels since 1999, and a board member from 2005-2007. He has been involved in the founding of several companies, from software to insurance, materials science, and accounting. He helped spin-out Interactive Supercomputer from MIT as a licensed company and helped recruit the early management team.
From 1995-1996, Dan was the Embedded Systems Manager at Pixel Magic Inc. where he was responsible for the development of board level image processing systems. Prior to these ventures, Dan transformed Jackson Hewitt Tax Service into a major competitor of H&R Block in electronic tax preparation. Serving as a Director and the Vice President of Technology, he was responsible for all software development, a 24×7 operations center, and the processing of over $400 million in short-term loans annually. The company went public in 1992 and was sold to Cendant in 1997. Dan received his S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. degrees from M.I.T. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, in 1983, 1983 and 1986, respectively.
Yantao Jia
Vice President of ASIC Engineering
Yantao has over 20 years of experience developing ASICs and SoCs, and managing engineering teams in system architecture and design implementation from concept to chip tapeout. Yantao’s broad experience spans from telecomm, datacomm, to consumer electronics. Prior to joining Immedia, Yantao managed the Global Digital Design Group at International Rectifier, where Yantao helped to build the group and streamlined digital engineering activities worldwide.
Prior to IR, Yantao held engineering management and design positions ranging from startups to large semiconductor companies. He was at SandBurst and later Broadcom (acquired SandBurst in 2006); Amber Wave Systems, then US Robotics (acquired Amber Wave in 1996), and subsequently 3Com (acquired US Robotics in 1997). Yantao also held senior engineering management positions at Turin Networks where he established Turin’s east-cost presence, Ammasso System, and Axis Semiconductor.
Yantao started his career at Ethernet pioneer InterLan later acquired by Racal Data Group. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and holds a BSEE from Princeton University.
